This time project is to find three old facades in taiwan.
Goal: To understand and analyze them.
Facade 1- Guandu Temple
Constructed in 1661 in Taipei.
The taiwanese temples tend to be bright and colourful structures, with broad curving roofs that are adorned with divine figures and traditional symbols of luck such as dragons and carp. They normally have three doors, the one in the middle is only walked through by the gods and the right door is the entrance while the left door is the exit.
Guandu Temple is decorated with fine carvings, paintings, architectures, sculptures, etc. These fantastic works include fine carvings of historical stories on the walls of the main hall and stair guardrails with fine carvings of embossed reliefs. At the altar, the magnificent statue of Mazhu and her two generals of Qianliyan (thousand-mile eyes) and Shunfenger (wind ears) are by her sides. Mazhu’s affable smiling face is a great contrast to her rigor fierce-looking generals. Visitors may also find various picturesque skillful paintings on each sides, pillars, and ceilings of the chamber.
Other than the fantastic historical Guandu Temple itself, an eighty meters’ long cave, Kuful Cave locates on the right-hand side of the temple. The Kuful Cave features twenty-eight statues of heavenly emperors along with a Thousand-hands and eyes Kuanyin at the end. In addition, on the back of Guandu Temple, there locates the famous, well-known Chai-shen Cave. Chai-shen Cave has features numerous golden statues of God of Wealth and Fortune, blessing all the visitors.

To the west of the chapel is Fort Santo Domingo, built by the Spanish in 1628 made of red bricks.
Facade 3- Taiping Old Street.
Douliou, Yunlin City, Taiwan.
The architecture of Taiping Old Street, more than 100 years old so far, is Gothic. Each building is two-story-high , adorned with exquisite carving, some with drawings and some with words that might have been the family last names, so they could indentify who lived here or there. The old street became an open leisure spot mixed with business and sightseeing.
